Thank You Santa and Larry Mills
for all the wonderful photos!
The Sixth Annual Holiday Ice Festival 2008 was a great day for Downtown Ferndale and everyone who participated, whether they were spectators, sponsors or shoppers.
Santa was all over town, sitting with the children for more than 200 photos and bringing in a crowd for his special lunch at Buffalo Wild Wings. Even his reindeer got in the act, pausing in Downtown Ferndale for a meet and greet with the youngsters.
Hayrides ran all day long, specifically showcasing the more than 40 ice sculptures that lined the streets and decorated the doorsteps of downtown businesses. Expressive merchants showed their special talent with WinterFest Windows, each adding a special glow to the city sidewalks. The community warmed up with a sing along at AJs cafe in the afternoon and as the sun set Fire Jugglers took center stage. The day of activity ended with an afterglow at Affirmations.
The day was also great fund raiser for a dozen local charities as Downtown merchants hosted the second annual Warm Hearted Cookie Challenge. Shorty Shortbreads, baked by Affirmations was the big winner raising $266.01. It is now, officially, Ferndale's Favorite Cookie '08. Second with $157.99 was Peanutty Butter Cookies benefiting the David Smith Memorial Scholarship and hosted by The CandleWick Shoppe. Supreme Chocolate Mint Chips, baked by Higher Ground and served at Meagan Mitchell Salon, came in third with $140.46. In all, more than $1,200 was raised for local charities. Cookie Challenge cookbooks with all the recipes are $1 and available at the Ferndale DDA office. (Scroll down for the winning recipe.)
WinterFest Window competition winner was State of the Art. Just 4 Us and Naka tied for second, with a 3-way tie for third between Twisted Shamrock, Beautiful Home and Brighten Up Bakery.
The winners of the Enter-to-Win program for a $100 gift certificate to shop Downtown Ferndale are:
