Joel and Daniel Kahn are shaking up the Nine Mile strip.
The father and son duo recently opened GreenSpace Café in the heart of downtown Ferndale to critical acclaim from people of all diets. GreenSpace Café offers a world-class dining experience with a curated menu of non-GMO, organic, seasonally-selected dishes completely free from any animal-based products.
Dr. Joel Kahn spent the last quarter-century treating and preventing heart attacks as a board-certified cardiologist. GreenSpace Café is a natural extension of his lifelong work promoting a healthy lifestyle with a strong focus on diet.

Dr. Kahn casts his vote on behalf of the chickens, pigs, cows, ducks and turkeys who don’t have much say in the matter. Still, he understands the challenges of converting an entire system to a plant-based method.
“Yes, it would take quite a restructuring of the farming industry to accommodate the current growth that’s going on in plant-based nutrition,” said Dr. Kahn. Citing predictions from the United Nations, Oxford University, and economic analysis out of Austria, Kahn comfortably states that “these fifty year projections show that it can be done, and it should be done.”
Dr. Kahn’s decision to open in Ferndale is no surprise. “It’s a perfect community for us to launch a restaurant that’s outside the norm in it’s goals, design, scope, and menu because it’s such an eclectic, wonderful mix,” he said. He notes the atmosphere in Ferndale is conducive to different ideas and embraces individuality. He believes GreenSpace Café will thrive in this open environment.
Between Dr. Kahn’s health background and his son Daniel’s education and training both in the business world and in the culinary field, it seems like the pair have a winning recipe. “Daniel is passionate about health, passionate about food, and passionate about giving back,” said Dr. Kahn.
GreenSpace Café is open Tuesday through Saturday for dinner and craft cocktails.
