Downtown Ferndale's Detroit Comics at 23333 Woodward, will be celebrating the worldwide promotion of Free Comic Book Day, a salute to the industry and highlighting the benefits of reading comic books. In addition to giving away comic books, Detroit Comics will also host top 10 comic book artist GENE HA and artist JOE QUERIO from Dark Horse’s The Witcher comic from 12 to 3pm. Ferndale, MI -- Downtown Ferndale MAYnia happens Saturday, May 3 with a morning-to-midnight schedule that keeps the town bustling all day long and provides ample opportunities for persons of every age to enjoy the district and all it has to offer. Whether guests check out the brand new child-friendly Nature’s Playhouse or schedule their Downtown time for night time fun at the Metro Times Blow Out, Woodward & Nine Mile will be the destination for fun-seekers all day on the first Saturday in May.

FREE Comic Book Day – Snag a book at Detroit Comics, 23333 Woodward (detroitcomics.com) where owner Brian Kelly is celebrating this World Wide Day with invited guests - Top 10 Comic Book Artist Gene Ha! and artist Joe Querio. The artists will be signing their books and drawing from noon to 3 pm at the store but the shop is open and giving away comic books from 10 am til 8 pm.
Nature’s Playhouse – 318 W. Nine Mile Rd. Their grand opening weekend continues with a preview of Playhouse classes from 10 am until noon and free open play for children of all ages from noon to 5 pm. The shop “officially” opens Friday, May 2 and will be an all natural play space and wellness center for children and their families.
Family FunDale – 12 Businesses all around town will showcase what kids and their families can do from1-5 pm. Besides visiting Nature’s Playhouse, FunDalians can make a car from a kit at Rainy Day Hobbies, plant a seed at Green Thumb Indoor Garden Center, color a cone at Treat Dreams, dance around the Maypole at the Rust Belt Market, chalk up the sidewalks at Modern Natural Baby, count the gumballs at Easy Like Sundae, have bike helmets fitted at the Downtown Ferndale Bike Shop, and check out what happens at Mejishi Martial Arts, Painting With A Twist, The Ferndale Public Library and The Ferndale Recreation Department.
Food Truck Rally – Hosted by the Rust Belt Market (RBM) in the alley adjacent to the RBM. Four trucks arrive at 3 pm and stay ‘til 10 pm, giving everyone plenty of time to get their food fix from Jacques Tacos, Detroit BBQ, Rolling Stone Wood Fired Pizza, Treat Dreams and The Pita Post.
Metro Times Blow Out – For the second year, the famous music festival comes to Downtown Ferndale at fave venues including New Way Bar, the Rust Belt Market, Found Sound, The WAB and the Loving Touch. Tickets are $25 at the door.
Ooh La La Lucha – Tequilla, Gams & Body Slams is a one-of-a-kind happening, hosted by the Imperial Bar and Public House, and held at 231 W. Nine Mile Rd. (next to the Public House). The evening is being billed as the Day of the Battle Blowout and features Lucha Libre Wrestling & Burlesque. Tickets are $20 at the door, which opens at 8 pm.
Beyond action-packed MAYnia, Downtown Ferndale regularly features a bustling shopping district with dozens of retailers and boutiques and a thriving nightlife with plentiful live music, unique shows and fabulous food.
